Bring Google’s Community Fiber Trial to Lexington

by Scott Clark on February 11, 2010

lexfiberLexingtonians, I encourage you to become a fan of our page and to nominate Lexington for this (though I’m not sure if our city is too large.)   Still, if we can get Google to think about Kentucky, we’ll all win too.

“Google is planning to build, and test ultra-high speed broadband networks in a small number of trial locations across the country. We’ll deliver Internet speeds more than 100 times faster than what most Americans have access to today with 1 gigabit per second, fiber-to-the-home connections. We’ll offer service at a competitive price to at least 50,000, and potentially up to 500,000 people.”

We hope Google brings their broadband to Lexington, but too bad Lexington didn’t get as creative (and as much attention) as Topeka did.

Hope it works out for you! Its good to see people promoting their hometowns/homestates. Kentucky deserves it! Good buddy of mine went to UK. Actually helped me out with finding a car shipping service. . Keep up the good work Scott.

Anyone from Maine who would like to support their state: the city of Portland has recently declared their interest in Google’s umm… interest!

This is not about competition between the cities, it is about giving Google the best sandbox for testing their infrastructure.

We absolutely know this is true. For Lexington, it’s as much about building consensus behind a goal that energizes us – whether or not we are selected. The region we’re in is rapidly innovating, and we love a good competition in Lexington.

Do any of you know where one might find a list of the cities being approved? Or even of a tentative deadline when the cities will be approved?

no, but I’m reasonably certain it’ll be listed here: http://googleblog.blogspot.com/ – so you might want to subscribe to that blog.
