It really is a challenge in that business and I feel badly for the environment that daily editions are working under. They are taking on water on so many fronts.

Business Lexington (http://www.bizlex.com) is improving their young website fast and furiously, and have been totally open to suggestions. Full disclosure - I write for this paper occasionally as a columnist. They are working to strike a balance between a large number of contributing writers and strong editorial oversight for accuracy and quality. I personally think they're doing a bang-up job. I recommend advertisers lock in their spots for 2009/2010 because that paper will come out of this recession on fire.

I rather like Seth Godin's attitude about how to start a local newspaper (http://sethgodin.typepad.com/seths_blog/2009/01/time-to-start-a.html) - Combine that with a simple, mobile ready design and you may be able to succeed where others have failed.

I'd like to see your analysis of the local newspaper sites as well. They are nearly as atrocious as the TV news. Talk about kitchen sink design.

I agree. These sites could be greatly improved from just about all angles. As many people as their are visiting these sites, you would think they would spend some money to have it done right. Although as with most places in Lex that try to do it right, they out source the work to somewhere in California because it's California, designers and web people are better out there, right?

If you're just an average internet user (like I assume a lot of their traffic is), it will be an nightmare for you to browse their site.
