I didn't like Automatic Matching Option too. It shows our ads on queries which we have turned off before.

What do you think about turning on Conversion Optimizer and Automatic Matching at the same time. What will happen?

"The only way you can see what queries are generating ads is to turn on a Search Query Performance report and watch for irrelevant queries"

Actually, this isn't true. Unfortunately the Search Query report only shows you queries for people that actually clicked on your ad, not impressions. So if your ad shows 1000 impressions for irrelevant keywords due to this new "feature" and only 2 people click, you can only see the extended phrases for those 2 people.

The first notice I had about automatic matching was an email I received from the affiliate manager asking me to stop bidding on a trademarked term, which I wasn't, but which automatic matching was. Thanks, Google!

[...] There are lots of other arguments about how automatic matching throws quality search results out the window, and negates highly-researched, and consciously targeted campaigns, but I think Scott Clark said it best in his post “9 Things I Dislike About the Google Adwords Automatic Matching Idea“.
